Will Elder was the inspiring creative genius behind the visual sensibility of MAD comics. From his youth when his family called him “Meshuggenah Villy”(Crazy Willy) to his peak as one of the funniest artists who ever lived, his youthful practical jokes and mayhem became the template for MAD magazine, MAD was co-created by Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Gaines with a large dose of Will Elder schtick in every story. His unique view of the world found its way onto the pages of some of the most influential social commentary comics and magazines in the last half of the 20th Century. His ground-breaking satire and comic art became the template for generations of comedians, filmmakers, writers and producers throughout the country.
